"I don't know."

The assistant finally spoke.

"I was told to enter them that way."

Claire looked toward Evelyn.

"Why?"

Evelyn remained silent.

Daniel discovered that his sister's SUV had originally been targeted because someone had reported the wrong plate after a dispute with another homeowner.

The report had never been verified.

One incorrect number had become a work order.

The work order had become a boot.

And the boot had nearly become an official violation against an innocent person.

Chapter 8 — The Prosecutor's Warning

Claire did not threaten anyone.

She simply explained what documentation needed to be preserved.

"Every photograph, work order, message and enforcement record should be retained."

Evelyn stared at her.

"Are you investigating us?"

"I'm telling you what responsible officials should do when a pattern of errors appears."

"But you're the county prosecutor."

"Correct."

The room went quiet.

Claire continued.

"My office does not prosecute ordinary HOA disputes. But if records suggest intentional falsification, retaliation or misuse of authority, those matters can become relevant."

Evelyn's attorney objected.
