Inside the crushing, claustrophobic trap of his thick arms, feeling the immense pressure on her ribcage, Maya remained chillingly, unnaturally calm. She wasn't struggling frantically. She wasn't kicking or trying to muscle her way out of a grip applied by a man nearly twice her size—that would have been a catastrophic, fatal waste of precious energy and oxygen. She was calculating. Her mind was a supercomputer of physics and leverage. She felt the incredible, bruising pressure of his arms, felt his heavy, heaving chest pressing directly against hers, felt the immense, driving power in his churning legs. But more importantly than all of that, she felt his precise center of gravity. Decker was pushing incredibly hard, committing absolutely all of his heavy weight forward in a straight line to drive her back. His weight was no longer centered over his own feet; he was leaning entirely on her structure to stay upright. She waited for the exact, perfect fraction of a second when he pushed his absolute hardest, when his forward momentum was completely unstoppable. Then, she yielded. She didn't push back against the wall of muscle; she vanished from beneath his pressure. She violently shifted her hips, dropping her center of weight straight downward toward the floor while simultaneously turning her entire body a sharp, crisp ninety degrees to the left. She changed the angle of resistance from a solid, unmoving wall to completely open, empty space. With absolutely nothing left to push against, and all of his massive weight deeply committed forward, Decker stumbled violently into the void. As he fell, Maya aided his terrifying journey. She clamped her hands like iron vices onto his overextended arm, and used his own massive, plunging momentum to pull him forward in a tight, twisting, high-velocity circle.THUD!The explosive sound of two hundred and thirty pounds of dense muscle and bone slamming onto the unyielding concrete beneath the thin red vinyl violently echoed off the cinderblock walls. The room erupted in a collective, deafening gasp of pure, unadulterated shock. The immovable object had just effortlessly, almost magically, thrown the unstoppable force to the floor.Chapter Twelve: The Grind of Attrition
