The fight, however, was far from over. Decker was badly stunned, the breath violently knocked from his lungs by the brutal impact, but his combat survival instincts were deeply ingrained. He hit the mat incredibly hard, but immediately rolled away from the impact, utilizing his remaining momentum to scramble frantically back to his feet in a single, desperate, fluid motion. When he stood up, panting heavily, his demeanor had changed entirely. The hot anger was gone. His face was a pale mask of pure, razor-sharp, survival-based concentration. He wiped a massive hand roughly across his sweaty forehead, smearing blood from a small scrape, and stared deeply at Maya. He finally, truly respected her. Maya simply took one deep breath and raised her hands back into her calm, defensive guard, ready for the next wave. The next five minutes were a grueling, agonizing war of physical attrition. The exchanges became a blur of rapid, exhausting motion. Decker stepped in with highly calculated precision, throwing tight, controlled combinations. Maya parried and countered instantly, scoring small, stinging points. He pushed forward; she redirected his energy. He tried to trap her against the edge of the mat; she slipped free like water passing through a coarse net, always circling back to the center.Fatigue was rapidly, undeniably beginning to set in. Decker’s chest heaved with deep, ragged, agonizing breaths, sweat pouring down his face in rivers and soaking his shirt dark, heavy green. Maya's breathing was noticeably heavier too, a light sheen of perspiration glowing on her forehead and neck, though her facial expression remained completely stoic and unreadable. It became entirely impossible for anyone in the room to predict who would eventually break under the immense physical and mental strain.Chapter Thirteen: The Desperate TakedownDecker knew he couldn't keep chasing a ghost on his feet for much longer. He was burning too much oxygen, and his heavy muscles were beginning to flood with lactic acid, making every movement feel like he was moving underwater. He desperately needed to ground her, to force her to carry his immense dead weight and drain her stamina. He dug deep into his reserves. He forcefully faked a high right cross, a massive, looping punch designed entirely to force Maya to raise her defensive guard high and expose her lower body. The moment her hands came up, he immediately dropped his levels, bending his thick knees. He shot forward with explosive, desperate, terrifying speed, wrapping his massive arms tightly around the back of her knees in a flawless, textbook double-leg takedown.Despite her incredible balance, her flawless footwork, and her spatial awareness, Maya simply couldn't stop a perfectly executed, fully committed wrestling shot from a man of that immense size and power. The violent impact lifted her entirely off her feet, launching her into the air, and Decker drove her forcefully and brutally back-first into the unforgiving mat.
