Emily nodded.

"Then you've waited long enough."

She placed her tiny hand in his.

The motorcycles began moving.

And as the sun disappeared behind the highway, Emily rode away with twelve bikers toward the place where her mother had vanished.

None of them knew that by midnight, three men would try to stop them.

And one of those men would make the mistake of threatening the little girl.

Chapter 2

Sarah Miller had disappeared after leaving work at 7:14 p.m.

Jax knew that because Cole had already searched the public reports on his phone.

The Iron Wolves stopped outside the medical supply warehouse just before dark.

The building sat near a row of abandoned factories.

Broken windows stared out across empty streets.

Emily climbed off Jax's motorcycle and pointed toward the rear parking lot.

"Mom parked over there."

Jax followed her finger.

A faded security camera hung above the loading dock.

"Was anyone with her that night?"

Emily nodded slowly.

"Mr. Kane came."

Jax turned around.

"Victor Kane came here?"

"Mom didn't like him."

"Why?"

Emily looked nervous.

"She said he was lying."

Cole stepped closer.

"What kind of lying?"

Emily pulled a folded piece of paper from the pocket of her dress.

"I found this under our couch."

Jax unfolded it.

It was part of a shipping manifest.

At first glance, nothing looked unusual.

Then Cole leaned over his shoulder.

"These serial numbers are medical equipment."

Jax nodded.

"But they're listed as destroyed."

Cole's face hardened.

"And?"

Jax pointed lower.

"Someone signed for them two days later."

The signature belonged to Victor Kane.

Jax remembered something from years ago.

Kane Logistics had won several government transportation contracts.

Millions of dollars' worth of medical equipment passed through their warehouses.

If equipment declared destroyed had actually been sold somewhere else, the company could be involved in massive fraud.

Emily stared at Jax.

"Is that why they took my mom?"

Jax folded the paper carefully.

"We don't know that yet."

A voice suddenly came from behind them.

"You people need to leave."

Everyone turned.

A security guard stood near the loading dock.

He was broad, nervous, and carrying a flashlight.

Jax recognized him immediately.

"Tommy."

The guard froze.

Years earlier, Tommy had worked security at a nightclub owned by Jax's late brother.

"Jax."

"Where's the footage from eleven days ago?"

Tommy looked away.

"I can't give that to you."

"Why not?"

"Because Mr. Kane told me not to."

The words landed heavily.

Emily took a step backward.

Jax's voice became quiet.

"Tommy. A woman disappeared."

"I know."

"Then help us."

Tommy stared at the ground for several seconds.

Finally, he walked toward a side door.

"Five minutes," he muttered.

Inside the security office, he pulled up footage from the night Sarah vanished.

At 7:12 p.m., Sarah walked toward her car.

Two minutes later, a black SUV entered the parking lot.

Emily grabbed Jax's arm.
