Jax held it up.
"She came to me with ninety-three dollars because she thought that's what her mother was worth."
Emily began crying harder.
Jax stared at Kane.
"You have millions."
Kane said nothing.
"You've got warehouses, contracts, guards, cars."
Jax's voice echoed across the yard.
"And she has ninety-three dollars."
He took another step.
"But she's richer than you will ever be."
Kane's expression twisted.
"Shut up."
"No."
Jax stepped closer.
"Because when this is over, she'll still have someone who loves her."
Sirens suddenly sounded in the distance.
Kane turned.
Cole smiled.
"Remember the video?"
Police vehicles flooded the road.
Kane panicked.
Sarah rushed forward.
Emily slipped free.
Jax caught her.
And Victor Kane realized too late that the evidence had already been sent to every major news station in the county.
Chapter 6
Victor Kane tried to run.
He made it three steps.
Then a biker named Mason blocked the gate.
Kane turned the other direction.
Police officers were already there.
Within minutes, the entire transfer yard was secured.
Sarah dropped to her knees beside Emily.
For eleven days, the little girl had waited.
For eleven days, she had gone to sleep without knowing whether her mother was alive.
Now Sarah held her so tightly that neither of them could speak.
Jax quietly stepped away.
Cole joined him.
"You did good."
Jax looked at the envelope in his hand.
Ninety-three dollars.
"No."
Cole raised an eyebrow.
"No?"
Jax watched Emily and Sarah.
"She did."
Sarah later explained everything.
She had worked in Kane Logistics' accounting department.
Months earlier, she discovered medical supplies were being marked destroyed while secretly sold through illegal channels.
When she tried reporting it, Kane threatened her.
She copied the evidence.
Then he abducted her.
"But I never told them where I hid the full files," Sarah said.
Jax looked at Emily.
The girl smiled weakly.
"Under the couch."
Sarah blinked.
"What?"
"I found them."
Sarah covered her mouth.
The original evidence had been in the family home the entire time.
Victor Kane had destroyed his life searching everywhere except the place Emily had accidentally protected.
News spread quickly.
The county demanded answers.
Government investigators opened an emergency inquiry.
Kane was charged with kidnapping, conspiracy, fraud, and multiple other crimes.
But Emily didn't care about any of that.
The next morning, she sat outside the Iron Wolves clubhouse with her mother.
She walked up to Jax.
"Can I have my money back?"
Jax stared at her.
Then smiled.
"Absolutely."
He handed her the envelope.
Emily opened it.
Her eyes widened.
