"That's his car."

The SUV stopped beside Sarah.

The driver's door opened.

Victor Kane stepped out.

He spoke with Sarah.

She shook her head.

Then Kane said something.

Sarah looked terrified.

The camera angle partially disappeared behind a delivery truck.

When the image returned, Sarah was gone.

The SUV drove away.

Jax stared at the screen.

"What happened after that?"

Tommy swallowed.

"The footage was deleted."

"But you saved it?"

Tommy nodded.

"I knew something was wrong."

A loud crash suddenly came from outside.

Everyone jumped.

Cole rushed to the window.

"Three black SUVs."

Jax's eyes narrowed.

Men were getting out.

Big men.

Not police.

Not security.

Jax looked at Emily.

"Stay behind me."

The front door exploded inward.

And a man stepped inside holding a photograph of Emily.

"Mr. Kane wants the girl."

Chapter 3

Jax had spent most of his life being underestimated.

People saw the leather vest.

The tattoos.

The motorcycles.

They assumed violence was the only language he understood.

Victor Kane's men had clearly made the same mistake.

The first man stepped through the broken doorway.

"Give us the girl."

Jax didn't move.

"No."

The man smiled.

"You don't understand."

Jax stepped closer.

"No. You don't."

The man raised his hand.

That was all it took.

The Iron Wolves moved.

Cole slammed the door behind them, blocking the second group from entering.

Two bikers pulled Emily and Tommy through a rear hallway.

Jax remained in front.

The first man threw a punch.

Jax dodged.

One powerful shove sent him crashing into a metal desk.

Everything happened quickly after that.

Chairs fell.

Glass shattered.

Men shouted.

But Jax's only concern was Emily.

"Go!" he yelled.

The bikers rushed outside through the back exit.

Emily was placed inside Cole's truck.

Jax followed seconds later as sirens began approaching in the distance.

The black SUVs disappeared before the police arrived.

An hour later, the Iron Wolves gathered at their clubhouse.

Emily sat at a wooden table with a plate of pancakes in front of her.

She hadn't touched them.

Jax sat across from her.

"Why do you think Kane wants you?"

Emily stared at the money she'd placed beside her plate.

"He asked Mom about me."

"When?"

"The night before she disappeared."

Jax leaned forward.

"What did he say?"

Emily closed her eyes, trying to remember.
