“I was standing outside my own house.”
She pointed toward the driveway.
“He came onto my property and accused me of violating a rule I had never heard of.”
The first officer shook his head.
“That isn't what happened.”
The older officer looked at him.
“Let her finish.”
The woman continued.
“I asked him to show me the rule.”
“He couldn't.”
“I asked him to tell me who filed the complaint.”
“He wouldn't.”
“And then he told me that if I didn't cooperate, I would regret it.”
The crowd murmured.
The man recording slowly turned his phone toward the older officer.
The older officer looked at the phone.
“You have video?”
“Yes.”
“Can you show me?”
The man nodded.
He walked closer.
But before he could hand over the phone, the first officer stepped between them.
“You don't need to see that.”
The older officer stared at him.
“Why not?”
The first officer hesitated.
“Because it's irrelevant.”
The older officer's eyes narrowed.
“Let me decide what's relevant.”
The first officer stepped aside.
The man handed over the phone.
The older officer watched the recording.
His face remained neutral.
Then his expression changed.
He watched again.
The crowd waited.
Finally, he looked up.
“Where did this come from?”
The man answered.
“My phone.”
“I mean the original recording.”
The man pointed at himself.
“I recorded it.”
The older officer looked at the first officer.
“Did you know you were being recorded?”
“Yes.”
“Did you tell him to stop recording?”
The first officer hesitated.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
The first officer didn't answer.
The older officer looked back at the video.
Then he noticed something else.
The recording wasn't the beginning.
There was another clip.
The man had apparently recorded earlier.
The older officer asked,
“Is there more?”
“Yes.”
“Show me.”
The man opened another video.
Everyone watched.
This time, the footage showed the first officer arriving.
The officer could be seen speaking with someone near the driveway.
Then the camera angle changed.
The audio became clearer.
The first officer was heard saying something that made the older officer pause.
The older woman covered her mouth.
She recognized the voice.
The crowd became restless.
The first officer immediately stepped forward.
“That's taken out of context.”
