“Did he tell you why he wanted the property?”
The residents shook their heads.
The older woman looked toward the first officer.
“Now do you understand why I refused to cooperate?”
The first officer remained silent.
The older officer walked toward the patrol car.
He opened the door.
Inside was a folder.
He took it out.
Then he returned.
He opened the folder in front of everyone.
“This is the complaint.”
He looked at the woman.
“Your name is listed here.”
She nodded.
“But the complaint was filed anonymously.”
She looked confused.
“Then how did he know about it?”
The older officer didn't answer.
He looked at the first officer.
The first officer stared at the ground.
The man with the phone suddenly noticed something.
“Wait.”
Everyone turned.
He pointed at the folder.
“Look at the date.”
The older officer looked down.
The complaint had been filed that morning.
The woman immediately spoke.
“But he came to my house yesterday.”
Silence.
The older officer slowly closed the folder.
The first officer looked nervous.
The older woman stepped forward.
“So someone knew about this before the complaint officially existed.”
The man with the phone nodded.
“That means somebody knew what was going to happen.”
The older officer looked at the gathered residents.
“Everyone stay here.”
He then turned to the first officer.
“You're coming with me.”
The first officer looked shocked.
“What?”
“I need to ask you some questions.”
“I haven't done anything wrong.”
“I didn't accuse you of anything.”
The older officer paused.
“I said I need to ask you questions.”
The first officer reluctantly followed.
Before getting into the vehicle, he turned toward the crowd.
“This isn't over.”
The older woman stared at him.
“No.”
She looked at the phone.
“Now it's finally beginning.”
The man stopped recording.
But before he put the phone away, a notification appeared on the screen.
A new video had been uploaded automatically.
He stared at it.
“What is that?”
The older woman looked over his shoulder.
The video had been recorded from another angle.
It showed the first officer meeting someone behind the neighborhood earlier that morning.
The man's face was still hidden.
But his car was visible.
And the license plate was clear.
The man slowly looked up.
“We need to see where that car went.”
The older officer heard him.
He turned around.
“Don't go anywhere.”
The man nodded.
