The lead operative kicked open the door to Caleb’s private office, his laser sight cutting through the darkness.

Suddenly, the unmistakable, deafening roar of a heavy-caliber shotgun shattered the silence of the street outside.

The operative at the rear of the formation violently jerked backward, crashing through the remaining glass of the front doors as a slug took him square in the Kevlar vest.

Dominic Vale stepped into the ruined doorway of his son’s studio.

He didn't look like a man trying to reform. He didn't look like a student struggling in an ASL class. He looked like the absolute, terrifying apex predator of the Chicago underworld, resurrected from the ashes to protect his bloodline.

Flanking him were Luca and three of his most lethal, battle-hardened enforcers, carrying tactical rifles.

"You stepped into the wrong city," Dominic growled, his voice a low, homicidal rumble that vibrated through the floorboards.

The remaining three operatives instantly spun toward the threat, opening fire. The studio erupted into a chaotic, deafening storm of shattered glass, splintering wood, and flashing muzzle bursts.

Dominic didn't flinch. He moved with a brutal, veteran efficiency, racking the shotgun and firing a devastating blast that shredded the cover of the second operative. Luca and his men advanced relentlessly, laying down a perfectly coordinated wall of suppressive fire that pinned the remaining intruders behind the reception desk.

Caleb didn't wait to be rescued. Utilizing the chaos, he vaulted over the drafting table, grabbed the third operative from behind, and drove the heavy steel scale directly into the nerve cluster at the base of the man's neck. The operative crumpled instantly.

Hannah grabbed the decrypted hard drive from the computer tower, shoving it safely into her jacket pocket.

The final operative, realizing the ambush had completely failed, threw a smoke grenade onto the floor and bolted toward the rear emergency exit, disappearing into the Chicago night.

The gunfire ceased. The studio was a smoking, devastated ruin, but the threat was neutralized.

Dominic dropped the empty shotgun and sprinted toward Caleb, his face pale with raw, unadulterated terror. He grabbed his son by the shoulders, checking him frantically for injuries.

"Are you hurt?" Dominic gasped, his hands trembling. He looked at Hannah. "Are you both okay?"

Caleb pulled his father into a fierce, breathless embrace, burying his face in Dominic’s shoulder. For a long moment, the mafia boss simply held his son, tears stinging his eyes.

When Caleb pulled back, he raised his hands. He signed with absolute, unwavering resolve: "I am okay. But they know we found the location of the Third Archive. The Architect is going to purge the facility before the FBI can get a warrant."

Hannah stepped forward, holding up the hard drive. "We have the exact coordinates in Brooklyn, Dominic. If they purge the facility, the people trapped inside will die."

Dominic’s jaw clenched. The remorse, the guilt, and the desperate need to finally balance the scales of his family’s dark legacy hardened into a cold, unbreakable iron.
