Chapter 10 – Shifting Ground
The longer the fight lasted, the more Trent's advantages began to disappear.
He was younger, but he was also spending energy.
Eli kept moving economically. He used the space available to him and forced Trent to work harder for every position.
The crowd began counting the remaining time.
Trent heard them.
Eli heard them too.
One wanted the clock to stop. The other wanted it to continue.
The farmer's breathing remained controlled. Trent's became heavier.
Every failed attack increased the younger man's frustration. Every successful escape increased Eli's confidence.
The balance of the fight had shifted without anyone noticing exactly when it happened.
