Chapter 6 – The $500 Deal

Trent expected Eli to retreat.

Eli did not.

The first attack came quickly. Trent tested the farmer's reaction and expected panic. Eli moved just enough to avoid the worst of it.

The crowd reacted with surprise.

Trent attacked again, harder this time. Eli absorbed the pressure and kept his feet underneath him.

The young fighter began to understand that the old man was not trying to fight him in the way he expected. Eli was not competing for style points. He was conserving energy.

Every movement had a reason.

Every step was measured.

Eli knew that the clock was his greatest ally. Trent had to defeat him before the time expired. Eli only had to remain standing.

The $500 suddenly seemed much harder for Trent to take away.
