Chapter 14 – The Walk Home
The crowd slowly dispersed.
Eli stepped outside into the night air. The noise of the ring disappeared behind him.
He walked toward his truck the same way he had walked into the building: quietly.
The farm was still waiting.
The broken combine was still waiting.
The fields did not care about the fight. Crops did not care who had won. Bills did not care how many people had cheered.
Eli understood that.
Tomorrow morning he would still be a farmer.
But the people who had seen him fight would remember something different.
They would remember that they had mistaken quietness for weakness.
They would remember the old farmer who entered a ring for money and walked away with everyone's respect.
