This time, Rachel answered the door.
Officer Harris looked embarrassed.
“We received a complaint alleging harassment and intimidation by your husband.”
Rachel looked toward Daniel.
“He hasn't left the house all evening.”
“We're still investigating.”
“Who filed it?”
“Patricia Sloan.”
Rachel sighed.
“Does she have evidence?”
Officer Harris hesitated.
“There isn't a specific criminal allegation yet.”
“Then please document that.”
“I already have.”
He lowered his voice.
“For what it's worth, I don't think your HOA understands where its authority ends.”
Rachel smiled slightly.
“Neither do they.”
The officers left.
The next morning, the HOA's attorney resigned.
Then the compliance consultant canceled his contract.
Then the county requested the HOA's enforcement records.
Patricia's strategy was collapsing.
But the biggest revelation had not yet happened.
CHAPTER 7 — THE REVEAL
At the final meeting, Patricia arrived with an attorney.
“We have documentation proving that the HOA acted within its authority,” the attorney announced.
